Privacy Policy for Pixel Weather on Android
Pixel Weather is a weather app that paints the forecast as pixel art. This policy explains exactly what the Android app does with your data, because the honest answer is: very little.
ΑʹWhat the app collects
Location (approximate only). If you tap "Use My Location," the app asks Android for your approximate location while the app is in use, and sends only the latitude and longitude to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a free weather data provider, to fetch the forecast for that spot. Your name, device identifier, advertising ID, or any other information is never attached to that request. The app never asks for your precise location or for location in the background. You can skip this entirely and pick a city manually instead.
City search. If you search for a city by name, that search text is sent to Open-Meteo's geocoding service to find matching places. Nothing else is sent with it.
Your settings. Your chosen art styles, theme, animation speed, and location are stored only on your device, in the app's private storage. There is no cloud sync on Android. This data is private to you: the developer cannot see it and does not have a server that stores it.
ΒʹWhat the app does not do
- No account or sign-up of any kind.
- No analytics, crash reporting, or third-party SDKs.
- No advertising, ad networks, or advertising IDs.
- No tracking of you across other apps or websites.
- No access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or files.
- No data is sold or shared with anyone, for any purpose.
ΓʹThird parties
The only external service this app talks to is Open-Meteo (https://open-meteo.com), a free, open-data weather provider. It receives only the coordinates or search text described above. Review their own privacy practices at open-meteo.com if you'd like details on their end.
If Android's own device backup is turned on, Google may include the app's settings in your personal Google backup, governed by Google's own privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). You control this in your phone's settings, and the developer cannot see it.
ΔʹGoogle Play data safety
The "Data safety" section on Google Play describes the same practices as this policy: no data collected by the developer, no data shared, and approximate location used only to fetch the forecast.
ΕʹYour choices
You can turn off the location permission at any time in Android Settings, and the app will keep working with a city you pick by hand. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on your phone.
ϚʹChildren's privacy
Pixel Weather does not knowingly collect any information from children, and the data it does handle (approximate location, used only to fetch a forecast) is not linked to any identity in the first place.
ΖʹChanges to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change too. Significant changes will be reflected in the app's release notes.
